We Are the Product

Every tap,
click,
swipe,
another distraction,
another box asking,
demanding
to lead us astray,
to try a new feature,
to change passwords,
to prove identity,
to update,
obfuscate,
while our attention
span grows
shorter
with every new version;
we become
the bug,
the virus,
the vulnerability.

Look look look:
a new box,
a new screen,
a new feature;
don’t pretend
to have control,
you never did;
logging in,
you were swept away
by the endless scroll;
thinking takes
too long,
too impractical,
too autonomous;
just press this,
click that,
and your account
will refresh
with the newest screen
you’ve ever seen;
you will feel the urge
to post about it,
as soon as you can recall
what you were doing
to begin with.
